Sixth Day of Riding

With rainy weather moving in for Sunday and Monday we decided to take our sixth consecutive day of riding. Our intent was a more ambitious route but after 12 miles and a lot of climbing we reversed course and headed back the way we came.

We figured we could substitute coffee in Daglan (where we are regulars) instead of Saint Laurent. The bad news is that Veronique who runs the creperie was closed and when we ran into her on the street she said "no coffee for you today" echoing the classic Seinfeld line. Fortunately, the boulangerie was open so plan "B" went into effect.

This was a day full of adjustments. Originally we were planning a nice lunch out on the way home but Kim decided an ice cream in La Roque was a better choice. Not as nourishing but far more satisfying. Upon reaching Castelnaud we planned to tour the flea market (yes the French call it that was well).

This sign says Fair of Foreman so something was lost in the translation. But there was no question that this was a good old American flea market.

This was the "fun-ist" thing. A home made merry go round with kids riding in barrel like airplanes powered by two humans pedaling away to keep it moving. Power to the people.

It was obvious that most stalls were filled with stuff salvaged from the basement or backyard shed.

Of all the food offering this pig roast was the most enticing. Too early for lunch so we passed. Once around the fete was more than enough but Kim managed to find a contraption that grabs an ice cube from the ice bucket. Harder to manipulate than fingers but with patience will get the job done. Darlene had one at the dinner table last night so we all took turns fishing for ice. Actually I remember my parents having one at the downstairs bar when I was a kid.

Before heading up the hill to our house I took this photo of the Castel and our house from a new vantage point. We are in the building in the lower left corner, dwarfed by Castelnaud above.

Not The End But Jus An Interlude

Our stay in Castelnaud came to an end around noon on September 30th. Being there for five weeks was a pleasure, but the time with friends ...
